PMS numbers assigned to vinyl by vinyl manufacturers

we are sign guys.....we loathe PMS colors and their charts. If a customer throws a PMS color on me I flash out the oracal and or 3m vinyl charts and say "pick one"
why some dont match? I have no idea just make sure what your looking at on the pms is coated. because uncoated amd coted ?pms colors are different

They are just guessing at the colors. I would never trust it, always go by an actual vinyl swatch book.

Unfortunately many of our projects are for national wide businesses
that are very picky about their brand colors. We have to make sure the colored vinyl, printing
& mixed paints for the sign cabinets are all a close match.
It makes it much harder when the vinyl's PMS is wrong.

PMS matching-
We had a client ask for this the other day. I went old school and took out our Pantone swatches and matched them to the vinyl samples, then had the client give me final approval.
If there is a quicker way I would love to know!!
