PVC banner production

My neighbor approached me asking if I could print a banner for him to put up on his construction sites. Here in Germany, it's called a PVC construction fence banner, which is secured with grommets and ropes in a frame. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with this and would have a few questions for the experts. To press the grommets into the material, you need a grommet press – I saw that in a video. However, what I didn't fully understand is that the edges need to be folded over, and one person welds them with a special device while another simply tapes them with double-sided tape. What is the correct approach here?

Construction fence banner is usually printed on mesh material and a UK website I checked uses that terminology. The mesh material can be vinyl (PVC) or polyester, possibly other materials. They do need to be hemmed. For a small banner like you illustrated you could use a banner tape to make the hem. You do need a grommet press to put in the grommets, though you can also use a grommet die set with a hammer to put them in manually (most people in the US use a manual grommet press that uses a lever arm). Here in the US construction fence banners are usually very long because they are used in combination with chain link fence to hide the construction site from view. So most small sign shops will outsource these to companies which have big automated machines to print hundreds of feet of banner, even though they make small banners all the time.

If you don't make normal banners, don't have a grommet press, and don't stock the mesh material normally, I'd recommend outsourcing this job. And if he's just wanting 4'x8' banners to identify his construction company, they don't need to be mesh. They can be ordinary 13 oz scrim vinyl banners.
