Ran out of BLACK ink?

This is the first time ever I have run out of BLACK ink, the printer printed fine last night now today the black ink is not working, test print shows NO black, so I check the black ink cart and it is totally empty.

Ok, so I installed a new black ink cart, what do I need to do so the ink will get all the way to the print head? Is there a special ink fill setting?

I would run a medium clean to get the ink flowing through the lines. I know those machine cleanings push the ink through, so in theory that would do the trick. I think the right way is to use a syringe to draw ink through the line, but I've never had to do that...

Well, I installed the new black ink cartridge, did two cleanings and everything is back to normal and it's printing fine.

I guess I prematurely panicked because I have never completely run out of ink before and I remember reading that someone had got air in the lines and had to purge the system. Anyway, all is good (for now).
