reinforcing magnetic stencil

I have an Oil company that wanted magnetic stencil cut for Barrel tanks they are are 38" wide by 16" tall with 12" letters cut out using the standard "STENCIL" font. We used .20 mil and cut them on our laser engraver. I cautioned the customer when they ordered these that they would have to be careful handling these due to the size. I would use 30 mil but our laser will not cut through the 30. Magnet is slow and a pain to cut in the Laser. well of course it is ripping in the narrow areas do to the size, the paint build up and the guys that are pulling them off with no concern. so anyone else used anything better that is pliable to a curve that may have more strength or a better font solution? any thoughts on a heavy lam over the cut magnet then hand cutting the lam from the openings?

Thanks Dave.

you could have the routered or water jetted on a thin aluminum, then use earth magnets to hold them down.
