Removing ink cartridges before empty, then reusing?

might be an obvious answer but i wanted to ask some of you guys that might know better than i do.

we want to print while we are gone at night. aka, hit print on a file that is 200 sq/ft on both printers and come back in morning to keep printing.

we are printing primarily one color. is it ok for me to pull a cart out of the printer that say has like 25% ink left in it, to put a full one in so that i can guarantee that the print wont run out of ink while im gone (i know a full cart will print more than one of the files). then when i return in the morning and burn up the ink in that fresh cart, to put the one back in that had 25% in it to be used like nothing happened to it.

i guess what im asking is does the smart chip handle the qty left in the cart, and is it ok to put back in and get the full use out of it.

thanks in advance.

I do something similar in my Valuejet all the time - never had any problems with it. Certainly not with the chip / ink levels.

Curious to hear other opinions though..

It's perfectly fine to do that. I usually turn the machine OFF before changing them out but this may or may not be needed...

you can swap it out at 25%. Once you get to around 8-10% I suggest turning the machine off and pull the cart. If the cart is pulled after that, the card will be written empty. I have heard that there is a limit but that is with the machine on. I pull my carts all the time when I do a demo.

You can pull the cartridge as many times as you want without turning off the machine. The card will not be re-written to zero. The card is smart that's why it is called smart card- smart enough to remember how much ink is was used.
