Roland BN-20 clicking sound while printing

I have had this Roland for almost three years now. a while back ONLY while printing, it makes this clicking sound sounds like nails on a chalkboard? It prints and cuts fine and only makes the sounds while the carriage is printing. I have observed it up close and its not striking the media clamps or it would have severe head damage. Is it possible the carriage needs lubed? I'm scared if I keep printing I might damage it? P.S. its not the head purging. I know that's normal plus it it would have to be over the capping station and wiper.

bad design kills
Take off the covers and check over everything. while still and then when printing.
Dirty belt / gear, dry rail? Debris?

Could even be the scan motor...

Belts don’t get “oiled” perhaps some sort of belt dressing ( I am unfamiliar with this problem or noise)

typically if a belt gets contaminated with oil, you replace it with a good one

i have been servicing wide format printers like the old tech jets since the very early 1990’s and have never oiled a belt.

Thank you! Seemed to do the trick!!! Roland wants 1k just to come look at it! This oil trick worked even though it says in the manual to never oil anything! But it worked!
