Roland GX-24 Camm 1

Hey all I have a question regarding Roland GX-24, I used have an old Camm1 -24"that got thrown in the garbage , I kind of regret it cause the new one GX-24 uses some of the old parts or matching parts, what I have noticed and was unhappy with though was the way the old camm1 was cutting circles , I work with many plotters and I see circles being cut in one smooth circular cut, now the old camm1 would cut the circle in a jittery motion which was taking a lot longer and was making a lot of noise... Now when I bought the new GX 24 , I thought this circular cutting issue would be a breeze , yet I see it is still the same old method of cutting as the old camm 1 where the whole plotter shakes , makes **** load of noise and takes for ever to complete a simple circular shape... Is there something that I am missing here ? are there certain settings that I perhaps missed or is the new Roland simply the same old Camm 1 with the new body lol..... If this is so then I have to say I am very disappointed... looking forward to your replies.

I would bet it is a software issue, I have had both plotters you have and they cut smooth and great. I know another shop that used some crap program and they had this jittery cutting problem. We hooked the plotter up in my shop and it ran fine. I think it is how the plotter is getting the information that will make it cut that way.

I cut out of SignLab, not some third party plug in cutting program, a REAL signmaking program.

+1 - it SHOULD be smooth on curves unless a) the file is crap (dxf comes to mind) or the language used to run the plotter is crap

I would be leaning towards the program as well (or the source file).

I run the GX24 for applique shapes a lot and I have done the cutting out of Ai, Corel, ES, and even Inkscape without any issue what so ever.

thanks for the reply, I too cut from a sign program lol , Flexisignpro so I don't think the program is the issue..., I have also an old PNC1600 and it cuts circles perfectly and effortlessly and nothing like the GX-24 using the same software the same shapes... Perhaps you're not understanding what I am asking about ... The gx cuts the circles fine but in a slowed down jittery way, the circles are perfectly round , it's just the method it's cutting it , compare when it cuts a straight lines and the circles , there is a big difference... When I see the PNC 1600 a 10 year old plotter cutting a circle the motion is smooth and quick , when I cut the circle on gx it's a lot slower and the process is noisy almost as the plotter cuts a lot of little round sections to complete the same circle..., the final effect I do receive a perfect shape so it's not the cut shape I am concerned but the way it does it... My files are good I have been doing this for the past 20 years lol .

From Gx menu there is command (smoothing) it's always on make it off make more speed but not smooth enough.
