I was wondering if I could get help with an issue...my vp test prints are beautiful! they look like the heads are brand new...no drop outs...no deflection....However when I print cyan it looks like ink starvation and the print appears to be overspraying somewhat...What would cause this? Its only on the cyan head...never seen a test print so nice, but the print so fuzzy and light....I did a head alignment, but a couple of the cyan ones it was so light i could see to adjust it....could it be dampers? or just needs a new head...trouble shoot ideas please?

A head can print a perfect test print and still be fried. The test print uses the largest dot which is the easiest to print. Once you go and actually print something though, it uses other dot sizes as well that can show a problem that didn't show in the test print. Most of the time you can test this by printing a file with a variable dot profile and then the same file with a non-variable dot profile. If the non-variable dot profile prints without the over spray and the variable dot one does, then the head is fried and should be replaced if it's not something you want to live with. Sometimes the issues is caused by dirty or damaged head cables so I would check those as well. If the head is 4+ years old it is most likely just dying a slow death.

You might also have a damper issue if the color seems to be fading during the print. Can't hurt to replace the dampers as they are maintenance items anyway. Also clean the chrome piece that surrounds the head. Ink builds up a lot in that area and will cause the head to not discharge static very well and can cause over spray issues.
