S80 Damper assy?

How hard is it do change out the Duct assembly on the S80?
im getting what looks like color starvation on blacks and blues.

its starts"banding" and then do a cleaning and its prints fine for a while but then its randomly goes out again

I had to have mine changed about about a year ago. It started leaking all over. I ended up having Epson do it. Watching the tech it didn't seam that hard and fairly straight forward. I didn't trust any of the sites I found with the part.

Epson has a flat rate repair on these now. I think it was like $4500. But with that, I got the Duct assembly, new capping stations and 2 new heads. So I didn't it ended up that bad.

I'm an Epson authorized tech in Los Angeles, you need to depressurize the system using the Epson Adjustment Program first, otherwise, the ink is going to be all over the place as it is under pressure. The part is $400-600 I believe. Weak pump caps can cause nozzle dropouts, as can old print heads.

I've done the replacement. You can use the Epson service program to depressurize, but you can also "manually" with a syringe depressurize the ink system to save some ink (and money). Google DUCT,CR ASSY.,CE45,ESL,ASP- 1911065 / 1833938 for $560, or look on CompassMicro for the part. Then use the service manual to step you though the process, it isn't too hard. If you want to save more money you can also replace the individual dampers ( Damper / Valve - 1495821) for $28ea in the duct assembly for the specific channels that are giving you issues. One warning for that approach, if your Duct Assy is particularly old it may be gunked up in the valves above the dampers. But ink starvation issues like you mentioned can be due to the one way valves in the INK HOLDER ink having sentiment buildup in old S80 units, and not necessarily the dampers. (yellow/orange is the worst)

Where do you insert the syringe to depressurize? The output in the dampers or the input to the ink holder assy? thanks

Place the syringe into the bottom of the dampers themselves, where the dampers hook into the printhead. The dampers hold the pressure, so you can unmount Duct Assy off the printhead while pressurized. But before you take anything else off you must depressurize the system. When the printer is off the valves in the the ink holder assy are closed, so you can't pull that much ink, and do not pull hard otherwise you can damage it. If I remember correctly there is about 15cc total of ink in the lines for reference. So I take a little ink out until it feels like there's no pressure pushing on me. You should still put some rags where you disconnect the lines because you will spill a little ink, but it wont spray everywhere like if it were pressurized. Using the service program seems like it wastes a lot of ink unnecessarily for depressurization, and it's faster, so I like the manual method. (10cc x 10 = potentially $28+ wasted??)

I honestly don't think my tech did the depressurization when he changed mine. He said they found you could change the duct without doing that and it saves a ton of ink.
