SC-850D cutting width

I have a new to me SC-850D that I have been using for a few weeks. Everything is set up and working great except for the maximum cutting width once the machine measures whatever media is loaded. With 24" vinyl, it will only cut in a 21" area. I lose almost 3" because it will not get closer than 1.5" to either edge of the vinyl. Is there a way to set it to cut closer to the edge?

cant you 'fake it out' by putting the rollers far off the 24" vinyl, let it measure, then move them to the vinyl?

No, it seems to be too smart for that. Every time I unlock and the re-lock the hold down lever it re-measures.
