Scary Halloween Experience

So we open a bag of assorted Skittles and Starburst candies for the trick-or-treaters tonight and pour them into a bowl. The last item to come out of the bag is a half full dispenser pack of X-acto blades. Fortunately we noticed them and set them aside with the bag. We plan to contact Wrigley on Monday to let them know.

I tend to think that it was not some malicious miscreant's act at the factory ... rather an accident that went unnoticed. Still, I have to wonder what these blades were doing anywhere near product.

I can only imagine the neighborhood turmoil if they ended up in some kid's candy bag and were discovered later.

Perhaps it was some sort of darwinian test. Since the blades were not actually in the candy they may have been there to see if anyone could possibly be stupid enough to eat an Xacto blade because either it couldn't tell it from a Skittle or whatever, or worse, it would figure since the blade was in the bag then it must be edible.

We've had kids as young as 2 years old trick or treating over the years. I cannot imagine someone wanting to know if a 3 year old could tear into anything with such results as you are implying. That's just too hard to fathom. There are quite a few sickos out there. Fred just came into some close vicinity of one. When I was a kid 60 years ago, they were already telling parents to go through all the candy, before your kids did, for this very reason. Back in those days, it was hidden double edged razor blades in the apples. At least you can use these at work, Fred.

You can use that candy bag as a write-off.

I can only assume that xacto knifes are used somewhere in the packaging process but whats alarming is that it got past their metal detectors.

Every How Its Made or Unwrapped shows the packages going through a detector.

Not Fred's candy. He buys the imported Chinese brand at his sign supply house and they throw a free 1/2 box of blades in the deal for being a good customer.

Hey that's a good way of saving money.

It's called satire, have someone read about it and explain it to you. Perhaps one of those trick or treating toddlers could be convinced to accommodate you.

No as bad but my child received everything from expired treats to packets of hot sauce, lemon juice, jelly... ridiculous.

Wow Fred, that is crazy!

It will be interesting to see what they say about this.

Glad those blades didn't go un-noticed! Imagine if this had been found by a kid or a parent, I'm sure that
there would be a bit of denial going on at the candy factory about who put them there. Glad for your sake that you
caught it!

Can't wait to hear what the manufacturer has to to say about that.
What a nightmare!@

We'll never know what Wrigleys has to say because my Mrs. took the bag and the X-actos back to the Publix grocery where the candy was purchased. Publix made a refund and said they would pass the items up the line to Wrigleys.
:donderwolk:

Just read a news report that four different kids found sewing needles in their Twix bars in the Philadelphia area. Other reports have kids getting packets of everything from jelly to hot sauce. One would wonder if other miscreants go even further and it goes unnoticed such as actually injecting poisons or drugs through the wrappers into soft candies.

Years ago, I forget what the chemical was, but they were injecting it into milk cartons with a hypodermic needle. It was also popular in fruit. People were doing it right on the grocery aisle floor in the markets. I guess with better camera surveillance and such, it makes it much harder to do, but these people will find a way. The more press they get, the more other jerks try to copycat, so to me, it seems to keep it silent might be a better deterrent.

Gvc..............

Are you some kinda sadist or just naturally that way ??

bob makes sense most of the time, but on this, he's dead wrong...... There is no room for bullsh!t on a subject like this, but you seem to be oddly happy with kids getting hurt and possibly being tortured. What's wrong with you......... ??
