ScotchCal engine turn gold

Long story short, I just did a job for someone that was in the sign business, but is retired.

The job was letter a window for one of his old customers, and he gave me some material to do part of it. The material in question is a vinyl that looked like, felt like, and had a horrible odor like I seem to remember Sign Gold having. I would think it was Sign Gold, except the liner was clear and was printed ScotchCal.

Was Sign Gold on a clear liner like that in the past, or is it still like that?

I'm more or less just curious.

I remember years ago, 3M, gerber or whatever they were called had some of their gold leaf products on clear backers. That was generally the double sided stuff for doing windows, mostly in reverse. It was kinda expensive, but it worked well. I still have some. Don't know if it's even avaiable anymore
Hope that helps.
