self healing mat material

Looking to buy self healing mat. The one I have is getting rough but I don't need the grid just a material that will lay flat. Table is 5'x16

Polypropylene will do you a good job, or check yellotools, I think there is a US distributor. They have a material on a roll that can be cut at any length (almost). Thjey have some other great tools too.

The self healing part people take to literally, some seem to think its actually going to fix its self after a knife cuts into it, that is ridiculous. The self healing description means that it will close the cut together again not gouge like in foamex, or styro. It will last a whole lot longer, it acts similar to rubber.

image1 mats are great. nearly every sign supplier offers it, but will most likely drop-ship from image1.
you'll need 2-5x8 mats. I just ordered 2-5x10's for my table, to replace the ones I've been using for the past 5 years.
don't waste $$$ on the grid, you can always print/cut and place underneath the transparent cutting mat down the line if you eventually want it.

+1 they don't "self-heal"...none of them do... but its also nearly impossible to cut-through them, as well.
we had a few nasty cuts from someone going to town on a TON of banner prints with a box-cutter, and I just filled them with 100% silicone and scraped off the excess with a squeegee before it dried. no issues.

Dose anyone flip their used mat over? When I got my new mats a few years ago I laid the on the bench upside down to flatten them out. I just have been the back side since then and will flip to the front when I need to.

We flip them when the main side is finally to trashed to be useable. The back side on most is glossy smooth though with can be a pain because app tape and vinyl stick to it like mad. Also remember one we had that flipping it over was just not an option, the back side smelled like, a very bad backside. Just nasty gross stinky. lol That one went in the dumpster. Ultimately one should last for years. Really if we are wearing one out, for as long as it lasts, we just order a new one since they are relatively inexpensive. Hoping to find a 5x20 footer for the next one. Nice big long table.

I tried shopping around for a 16', but freight cost was too much, ended up with 2 grimco (4x8).

I bought a cheap clothes iron and used that to smooth out a scarred up self healing mat, worked pretty good on medium heat.
