We use Caldera RIP software. While Caldera does drive all flavors of Summa cutters, Caldera has a cool function of "fully automatic cutting". Which is that it will scan the barcode (using the OPOS X sensor) to get the nest that it needs to cut, finds the marks, cuts, advances, scans the next barcode and so on... It does this completely automatically. After I bought the OPOS CAM model, i discovered Caldera doesn't support this on the OPOS CAM - only OPOS X.

However, at the time it wasn't a big deal because we were having the cutter cut 30-100 identical nests at a time, so manually scanning a barcode, and then using the "replot" feature to continually re-run the same nest (including finding marks) worked just great! Now every nest we cut is different, so we're manually scanning every nest. ...which the way most other RIP softwares work -- but I wanted the fully automatic capability (like we have on our other Summas).

My understanding is that most RIPs don't have any capability like this, so this issue is not a problem with other RIPs.

I was really torn to do that because in the end, with an operator manning the machine, it actually DOES get work done noticeably faster. If it is the case of where you're loading and cutting jobs -- it does speed up the process noticeably. ...plus its fun to just see it fly over the registration marks! (yes, I need a life).

Where did you find out about this feature? I am using Caldera VisualRIP+ on my new HP L25500. I saw the barcode but had no idea what it was for. Do you know if it works with Graphtec?
