every now and then, I think a member who does such consistently nice work needs a shout out. :U Rock:

there have been some logo help thread lately and in each, SignManiac has posted some very nice, simple and clean ideas. also there have been some posts of work done and that too is always really nice.

Wow, thanks Marlene. That is very much appreciated. As you can see, I'm obsessed with design. I tell all of my clients that I am a designer first, sign maker second. After thirty six years of learning this stuff, I find it challenging to keep things clean, legible and balanced. When I started out, I wanted to make the fanciest signs I could muster up. Now I go for the total opposite.

I like all of these design help threads, but lack the patience to articulate and explain them in words. It take me longer to type out what I'm trying to convey than it does for me to just design it and show by example. I guess I'm lucky I can knock them out quickly.

Well if I even help just one person here become a better designer by my examples, then I've made a huge impact in this world of eye piercing visual pollution I have to see every day I drive down the road.

I wish everyone could see what design can truly be. The world would be a prettier place to look at.

Thanks again Marlene, I appreciate the kudo's. I'd like to say that several others here deserve the credit as well. Jillbeans, Rick, Tiki, Rjd23d, SignMeUP, Flamie, sorry if I screwed up the names there and several others as well who are constant contributors as well.

Call it a passion, a sickness, or anything else, but good design makes me smile. As a side note to other aspiring designers, I'm self taught so if I can learn it so can the rest of you.

yep, they do too. I just wanted to bring you to the front of the class as your work is always so good and you have such good ideas in the design threads. every now and then, it's nice to point out just how nice someone's work is.

Hey Signmaniac. I second your statement. You can be pretty cut and dry, sarcastic and very direct with your remarks regarding some layouts that have been posted (mine included), BUT, I think that's the best thing you can do. I know I appreciate it (though a bit of explaining after the sarcasm would help this dense head of mine) and you for it.

Because of you and others on this site I have been able to improve some designs and outright scratch others and start over.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SARCASM AND CUT AND DRY ATTITUDE!!!

LOL jc1, you're welcome. I admit I do have my strange moments and mood swings. I particularly like subtle sarcasm, the kind that only a select few pick up on :) But I do try to keep my help real if at all possible. It keeps things fun!

SM is one of the main reasons I tune in here. Never lets you down... always offers advice that's on the Bullseye. Doesn't matter if it's regarding a design, an Iphone, or a Coroplast Airplane.

Hats off to you fella.

Thanks John. You need to let me know when you're down here in FL. I'll swing by one day and have lunch with you or a beer!

i scan many threads and stop on the posts with avvys next to them that belong to compelling members...SignManiacs are always stopped at. his work is great, but more importantly he leaves that "message board mentality" at the door.

I don't get warm and fuzzy :) unless I've drank a bottle of wine!!! Which sounds like a good plan for tonight.

But, I do appreciate the kind thoughts. I guess that's why I screw off all day here when I could be actually doing some work. Nah, bad idea, then I wouldn't need employees! And that would start a ripple affect in the economy and then the world we know around us would collapse! See how complex it all is?

Great topic, Marlene.
Not only does SignManiac take the time to visually show someone (often the most effective way in my opinion) how to improve something, he also gives great advice about charging what it is worth.
If we all listened to his sage words, we would all make more money.
And he has such a natural gift for arranging elements in a pleasing way.
After awhile, ones eye is trained to see things the way he does.
A huge fan here, also of our other great design guys, like Rick, Tiki, Neato, Weasel, Joe D, and so many other true gentlemen.
Bravo, Mr. Bob.
Love....Jill

Bob is definitely a great asset to the forum, one of the many reasons I stick around...

Hey Bob, will you autograph my butt? I have an area shaved, somewhat clean and ready to go...

LOL Rick :) do you have a preference for ink or 1-Shot? Script or casual?

I'd like to state, we all have our idols and Rick along with some of the ones Jill remembered that I forgot to include have been an inspiration to me, and keep me hanging around with baited breath as well.

There are only two things that matter to me, good design and making good money doing something you love! That should be the primary reason we are in this profession.. Aspire to be the best you can and you will be gauranteed success!
