Since SA will not answer my question,

I'll throw it up here on the wall of shame.

In Flexi Pro 8.6, and 8.5, in the advanced settings of the production manager, you cannot change the amount of passes for a given profile. You will get a nice error message that says it is not recommended.

In earlier versions, such as 7.6, you could change the amount of passes without a problem.

The reason this is important to me, is that sometimes, changing the amount of passes will solve banding issues.
Amazing, that I could change from 4 passes to 3 passes and banding would go away.
I could change from 4 passes to 6 passes, and get a more vibrant print.

In other words, I had more control over my printing with an older version.

The reason I am bringing this up here is because I have spoken on the phone with people at Scanvec, I have emailed, and I have tried the web form.
2 months ago I was told "The engineers will have to look at this."
I have called and emailed several times since then, and either no one has kept a record of my communications, or the problem is being ignored.
Or no-one knows what to do to fix the problem and they are just afraid to tell me.
The only suggestion ever made by anyone at Scanvec Amiable is to upgrade to the latest version.
I have done so.

Also, I installed the desktop driver for a versacamm sp540v, it will reliably crash the production manager every 8 minutes. I have timed it.
Remove the desktop driver and the crashes go away.
This problem has also been brought to Scanvec Amiables attention.

I have spent quite a bit of money on this software (multiple licenses)
and to put it bluntly, I wonder if anyone a SA gives a shit.
Are they just waiting until their free support time is up?

Man, as much as I love the program we used to have the same problem with them. When we upgrade from v5 to v6 the program was popping up error messages every 15 minutes then just shutting completely down. Technical support used to tell us after almost every phone call that they'd look into it and call us back and not once in over 100 phone calls did I ever get one back. Not once. I had a file in word that I would document the crashes, error messages, and tech support lies in.

If you need to get in touch with tech support start calling the sales department and complaining, seriously. They don't want to hear it, they'll connect you directly to someone. Worked for us. I hated waiting on hold for an hour, sales would put you right through.

I hope SA is not going down but the posts about them sure make it look that way. We're planning on upgrading both systems from 6.6 to 8 when the printer gets here. I'd hate to have to learn a new program.

The only reason I upgraded my software was because of new equipment not supported by the older version.

Spend lots more money, get less control over the machine. Get no support.

I am also a Flexi-Pro user from 5.8 years ago all the way to 8.1 today (currently holding two licenses as well) who is freaking about learning a new program but that day is quickly approaching I'm afraid.

8.1 is doing "ok" so I am reluctant to pay $ for an upgrade to 8.6! I actually liked 7.6 better myself.

We were having a lot of errors with 8.5 and we spent hours on the phone with SA, Some guy named Radish, but to no avail. He upgraded us to 8.6v2 and said that one fixed all the bugs that 8.5 had. But the same errors pop up. Now it won't even open, and the support guy didn't even know what to do. #$*@!$! We've been cutting through Illustrator.

The quick answer is:
You are probably getting a notice because you are corrupting the profile.

The profile was written based on a certain number of passes.

I have changed some of these functions and printed, but the results can be unpredictable, hence the warning.

Randya,

You are correct !

The profile was written with a certain amount of passes, but unlike the older version of the software, I would have to create a new profile just to change the amount of passes.

How stupid is that?

2 seconds to change the passes, or 60 minutes to create a new profile.

Mine gives me the warning, but looks like it will still print.

Will yours not rip if you change passes?

Sorry for your woes, but I think when you invest thousands with SAi you always end up with the worst customer service you'll ever experience.

I've been there before with them . . . No more upgrades with them for me.
