Smart Card Disable

Can anyone point me in the right direction to disable the Smart Card requirement on a VJ-1617H seems to be very similar to the 1624
I am getting a error indicating the K cartridge is out even with a new card, Does not seem to be able to read the card

Just need to know if its possible and basic info as to whats needed software / firmware wise

It is Version 1.04 using 31 series Inks

Any info is appreciated
