We've been ordering from got print for a while now and I've been on the owners to submit the proper documents to be admitted to the wholesaler program. Well that never happened, so I tracked down our business license, made a copy, and emailed it. This morning I get an email from got print saying

Thank you for your interests in our services and giving us the opportunity to be of service to you. Unfortunately we were not able to approve the account into the Broker's Program. We would need proper documents reflecting your company being in the Graphic Design or Printing field to qualify.

I think the problem is that our sign company is a DBA of another company that has nothing to do with signs or design, which is what the business license is under. I noted this in my application and also provided our GP account name so that they could see the work we are ordering from them and realize we are not just a Food Service Company. WTF GP!

they are doing the right thing, they are chosing there customers based on certain criteria, ie, that they are a sign/print company. Submitting a DBA under Joe's Crab Shack probably ain't gonna cut it.

If you're doing Graphic Design or Printing for the public, even if it's under the umbrella of a food service company, your business license should reflect that anyway. Are you not licensed to sell what you're trying to sell?

I actually applaud Got Print for at least throwing that little firewall in there to try to protect industry only pricing.

They should protect their wholesaler program, I dont care. They should also protect their customers. all they have to do is look at our account to know that we are reselling their products. I didn't just order 5000 chiropractor business cards for my health. i can tell you for sure, that if they cant fix this, the 5000 chiropractor brochures are coming from somewhere else.

you can only have one business license in IL. with as many DBAs that you want as long as the name is registered with the state. However, there is no official documents for DBAs here. (so I'm told)

How can you only have one business license?? That doesn't make sense. If you have two separate businesses your saying you can't have two licenses??

You can have one entity and several DBA.

for example mines is "my last name enterprises" DBA Colorado Signs.
DBA Colorado Signs and Graphics DBA Colorado Signs and Wraps
DBA Colorado Wraps.

Sorry, that was confusing, you can have as many business licenses as you have registered businesses. So you can pay the state a yearly llc fee for each business or you can make a DBA which they do not issue a separate license for.

That makes more sense now. I was confused as from your earlier posts it seems as if your boss is running two entirely different and unrelated businesses under one roof (license).

Sounds like you really should talk him into splitting off the sign/printing business into its own. So he can make more money (and of course give you a bump in pay based on that increased profit) by actually being able to purchase from Trade Only businesses.
