[SOLVED] Roland CX-500 Cutter Issue

Hey guys,

We're in a bit of a pickle down here in Kiwi land. Our Roland CX-500 is playing up (even though it's just been serviced) and refuses to stop rolling media backward. We can't seem to be able to interact with the control panel properly either, although the LCD screen lights up as per usual.

As soon as you turn the machine on, it does it's startup procedure and then decides to kick the rollers on at half'ish speed. It does this media or no media. We have tried restarting our computer that is connected to the machine and unplugging it all together. We have power cycled the CX-500 numerous times as well as try to interface with the control panel, but that does not respond as mentioned above.

We have put an urgent call through to techs, but I doubt I'll get one 'round today. Any ideas from the internet that I can try? Google has shrugged it's shoulders at me so far. It's not under contract or anything, so I'm free to use hammers and other brute force tools if there is a chance it will get this thing working again.

Thank you in advance!

Have you tried removing, cleaning and re-seating the ribbon cable to the panel? It might be worth a shot to check all the cables this way.

Wow. It was as mundane and stupid a problem as I thought it might have been.

I was playing with key combinations and noticed the 'up' key didn't have as much travel as the rest of them. The rollers were engaged by the up button being semi-stuck in the on position. After a little bit of convincing tweezers and a heavy thumb, the button popped up and the rest of the control panel worked again.

If only all problems were this easy to solve!

Thanks for your suggestion, player. :)
