Encoder was dirty so it got pulled, cleaned, and reinstalled. When in Service menu it wouldn't let me do a linear encoder setup cycle. Which needed to be done since the cut was WAY off. I read, and reread the instructions. Systematically tried different methods to try and get it to work. Still got the same "chirp" and warning to remove media. Tried with media also, same chirp and warning which makes sense.
At that point I had had enough and went right to Linear Calibration. Bingo! Another half hour of tuning and we're good to go.
My question is why couldn't I get the Encoder Setup mode to do its thing? It is the first step before Linear Calibration. Perhaps its all academic since everything is dialed in, but I'm afraid at some point it will be necessary to do that step.
