Transporting XJ-740 - lost printhead lock

I sold our 740 and the buyer is coming to collect in a week or so.
Thing is I can't find the blue printhead lock anywhere.
Is there another way to secure the thing for trucking 3-4 hours away or do I need to get one?

Where have you searched?

Regularly, the print head lock is mounted at the printer, at the XJ you can find it on the right side (seen from the back), underneath the bottom plate of the printer.

I'm pretty sure I took it from the 740 when I sold the 640 and couldn't find that one.
So this bracket just prevents the carriage from moving to the left?
I could rig up a piece of wood or something to do the same thing.

I rang Roland Australia and they said I'd have to order one from Japan which would take weeks.. gah

Sometimes, people forget it because it is placed very hidden on the machines. Yes, the print lock only safes the carriage from moving. I think there should be other possibilities than waiting for weeks.

cant speak for this exact machine but we lost ours for a few valuejets a few years ago when we moved and we were able to find a few pieces of angled metal at home depot to make a new one. You shouldnt have any trouble making something for the short term until you can get a replacement.

Are you taking the ink out and running a head wash first?

Lock is best but the caps are motorized on this unit and for a short haul, you could use a nylon reinforced tape to pull the head to the far right position while using a piece of foam, cardboard or the like to space the right side gap (to keep the the head locked an not moved too far right to unlock). Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the tip.
No I'm not flushing the inks. It will only be off for a few hours.
I will do the spacer and duct tape thing.
