Trouble with our Graphtec FC8000-130

I am new to this machine so I am not sure whats going on but when we cut a file out it cuts fine in the middle but the left side it actually cut through the backing paper and the right side it doesn't even cut through the top layer.

what would cause this? Does it need a new blade?

Check you cutter protection strip, I'd bet it has deep gouges on the side that is cutting through. A new one is about $40US.

Or your blade holder may be gunked up or failing.

It needs a cutting strip. The right side is used more often then the left while cutting. So if your set at 20 pressure the right side dips into the gouge and doesn't cut and as it gets further to the left the gouge gets smaller and smaller and the blade starts to dip less and less until it is cutting all the way through. Don't throw away a blade until you get a new strip.
