Trying to get a true BLACK color - Mimaki JF 1631

I have been sending files to my JF 1631 Mimaki and we changed to CMYK and my blacks are more of a charcoal brey or dark brown. It happens from two different design softwares.

Any idea of how to make my blacks a true black. I have tried making the file CMYK and RGB and no luck

You can not control this as long as your work flow is using ICC. If you use Onyx rip you can go to Color management/ Change profile and then click on the colorful icon to specify Pure Hue. This could help (but you won't have rich black). If you really want to control the exact ink lay down then you could turn off the ICC work flow but warning you that your color matching will be out of wack.
Hopt this could help

What CMYK values are you using for your black? If you google or search for "rich black" you'll find some different values that people use to build nice solid blacks.

I usually use somewhere around 20/20/20/100 for my blacks.

Hi Pat, thanks for the response, I was at 0%, 0%, 0% and 100%. Is that not the truest black?

Thanks for you input and future input.

no, rich black adds CMY to the mix -- you can also inspect your final output color in the RIP - it may be changing it to something like 60/60/60/60 which indeed comes out muddy - if it is outputting only black it will just look like a 'faded' black

Depending what resolution I run my printer in if I do 360x720 8 pass, I use 0-0-0-100, if I use 720x720 8 pass I use 60-40-40-100 and they both give me a nice solid black.

My rich black setting in Flexi is 75/68/67/90. How much more black could this be? The answer is none. None more black.
