Unrecognized Format

Hi all. Glad to join the community!
Are there members who use Adobe Illustrator? I was given an .ai file to do a simple changes. But Illustrator won't let me save it.
After saving the file this error message occurred: Unrecognized Format
What's going on? Please guys, any help will be appreciated...

Have you tried a SAVE AS or
Open a new document and copy and paste into that new document and save that?

That's odd. I'd suggest trying to save it in a new location and possibly as a different file type. Then maybe save that file as the AI again.

besides exporting to SVG - you might download an older or newer version of Illustrator form Creative Cloud and paste it into that...

I've found some solutions:
1. Reset the settings, workspace and preferences in illustrator to the defaults.
2. how to fix Illustrator files?
