USB Printer cable question

I have my SP-300 running fine but I would like to get a longer USB cable and was wondering if I can purchase any USB to printer cable?

The cable that came with the printer is about four feet long and I would like to get a either a six or eight foot cable.

I believe Roland recommends no more than 10ft.

I have tried long cables with mine and have had nothing but trouble. For instance, when printing yesterday it got halfway through the print and then just stopped - the printer was still 'busy' and the computer could still apparently 'see' the printer, but when I removed the ink cartridge, the computer still thought it was there.

This has happened a lot, I even tried usb over ethernet (about 30m) which did the same thing, so I am back to a laptop now with 2m long cable which is working fine.

I had a feeling the lenth of the cable could be trouble.

I may just leave the cable right where it is since it prints great with no probelms at all right now.

I was only going to try either a 6 or 8 cable but maybe I should just leave it alone.
