Versaworks color

Thats not the mode, thats the color cartridges you have. It you had a 6 color machine, it would say CMYKLcLm. I think that is what you are getting at.

I know I can change mine (flexi prod mgr) to use CMYK or K only (and CYMKlclm of course, but I dont use that)...I just figured it was an option in most RIP's

Pat, can't you do that with density control I think? I might be wrong, but I think with using density control, it will only use K for the blacks. Doesn't look good when printing color with them, but if you needed a black image, you wouldn't burn through as much color. Haven't really tried it, just bought I heard that before.

I wish.....if there is an option to use K only in VW I would be stoked.

There are several different ways to do this:

1. Use Roland Color System or
2. Use Special Color Setting (Edit Menu > Special Color Settings) or
3. Set your Color Management Properties list box to 'Density Control Only' in the Job Settings > Quality page.

Each have their place, and there can be times when each option yields superior results.

If you use the Density Control Only setting, that may work with a grayscale raster file. I have done so with an CMYK based file.
