video card or the monitor itself?

I really need a new monitor for my printer b ut is it really the monitor or the video card that will give me a better view of my graphics. For instance I really cannot detect light colours at all and they are basically white on screen.

trouble shooting 101, try the monitor on other systems. Preferably one with the same video card and at least one with a different video card.
