I would give Oramask by Oracal a try.
I think regular vinyl would lead to too much residue.
You may get unwanted adhesive on there.
I don't think automotive paint is "hot" enough to melt it but you never know.
I cut masking for a buddy who does kustom paint, and he melted Avery's mask using HOK paint. Made a huge mess.
Oramask worked for him.
My only problem with using Oramask is that it can ghost the substrate.
But supposedly this can be removed with heat...I've never attempted it.
I hate the Gerber white masking, it's so brittle and hard to work with.
Better safe than sorry.
