vinyl for paint mask for car

I would give Oramask by Oracal a try.
I think regular vinyl would lead to too much residue.
You may get unwanted adhesive on there.
I don't think automotive paint is "hot" enough to melt it but you never know.
I cut masking for a buddy who does kustom paint, and he melted Avery's mask using HOK paint. Made a huge mess.
Oramask worked for him.
My only problem with using Oramask is that it can ghost the substrate.
But supposedly this can be removed with heat...I've never attempted it.
I hate the Gerber white masking, it's so brittle and hard to work with.
Better safe than sorry.

Whenever I use Oramask on aluminum or aluminum composite, even if it's only on there for two minutes, I can see the ghost of the film on the substrate.
I can't explain it any better than that.
I would be very reluctant to put any masking or vinyl on a two day old paint job no matter what anyone says.

I have done it like this guy does in the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3R8h6u4EI0 only differance I use is that instead of filling in with tons of 3/4" tape I use 12 inch application tape and then cut it over the fine line tape. Just make sure you have all the edges down good.

Method 1
Tape out flames with fine-line masking.
Cover whole area with transfer tape.
Olfa knife over taped lines
Remove transfer tape from desired area and paint.
Method 2
Cover whole area in transfer tape
Draw out flames
Use Olfa knife to carefully cut out pattern
Remove waste and paint.
Method 3
Design wicked looking flames in PhotoShop
Print, laminate and cut flames
Apply flames to vehicle
Wipe down with wax and grease remover
Bury in clear coat.
Tape out flames with fine-line masking.
