Vinyl on a smoker?

Does anyone know what temperature a good wrap film can withstand comfortably?
I wouldn't wrap a BBQ that gets up to 350+ but I guy wants a Smoker done and he actually only wants a about a 14x14 decal I was going to use Oracal 3751, but can't find any teperature guidelines, any ideas?
He said it gets warm but not really hot.

short answer no, he mislead you about the temp

a typical smoker will average 185-250 degrees for SEVERAL hours, a brisket needs 12+ hrs to have that fall apart tender

an alternative would be use standoff mounts, place the decal into a rigid, alum so the heat doesn't warp the PVC, in dibond, and your good

Well, he said it was insulated, and you can hold your hand on it.
It is probably really expensive, he is into competitions and all, so maybe it is not your normal smoker?
But I see what you mean over all that time probably no good and he does a lot of brisket.
So, by standoff mounts do you mean find some type of spacer, like little legs sort of to raise it off the surface maybe .5"?

Most well insulated quality smokers won't get warm enough on the outside to be a problem.

Find out what they use for “The Patch” it seems to hold up on smokers.

I read that a black panel (side of a trailer) can reach 195 degrees F?

Take a chance...it's a 14x14 decal...if it doesn't work you won't need a heat gun to remove it.

It should work fine. I have a large insulated smoker, and he is right it, it hardly even gets warm. A car hood in the summer is much hotter! Only area that even gets somewhat hot is around the actual firebox.

not sure what the decal is gonna have on it but if not to complex i would cut yourself a stencil and paint it on

It surely doesn't get as hot on the outside of the box as say, a vehicle standing outside on a sunny, 90 degree day. As in so hot you can't touch it. Digital holds up to that pretty well.

ah....... he is a competitive cooker, then yes he will have an expensive smoker and yes you are good to attach directly to the metal.


what we have used is stainless steel standoff mounts, depending on the heat / location determines the distance raised. I would say .5" is the minimum
