Vinyl on cor ten steel?

Signed Out

New Member
Has anybody applied vinyl graphics to cor ten steel. Cor ten steel is designed to form a layer of rust which acts as a protective coating for the steel. Just wondering if this affects vinyl lettering at all? Will the rust bleed down over the lettering or cause it to fall off?

The layer of rust is very thin, but if you prep the surface to accept the vinyl you may damage the rust layer permanently. If it hasn't rusted yet (aka brand new) you may be okay but I would expect the edges to lift eventually. See if you can get a sample from the manufacturer for testing, or better yet see if they can give you guidance on using adhesive vinyl on their product. I would shy away from such a job without a 16 page signed waiver from the client.
