waterbased mutoh

hi,

i recently aquired a waterbased mutoh and i have a small problem. i'm using aftermarket pigment ink and i'm not able to print on glossy media. the print looks ok, but the ink rubs off very easily. i was doing a lot of google search and i find that is common problem for most of the pigment inks. i also know the drawbacks od dye inks, such as fadeing. but i already have a roland for outdoor so i only need indoor printing with mutoh. my question is: for family indoor posters and technical/CAD drawings is it OK to switch to dye inks?

thanks,
adrian

Are you trying to print on the sameglossy material you use in the Roland? That will not work if you are. Have to use special coated media for waterbased inks.

no, it is not the same. it is a waterbased paper. on the label it says: dye, pigment, quik drying.

P.S. i understand thathere is mainly a solvent forum, can some one direct me to a waterbased forum?

If your aftermarket pigment and paper are not compatible, it is doubful that their dye and your paper will be any more compatible. The carrier should be the same.

I would not recommend dye for family indoor posters unless the environment is very controlled. I had a dye poster that faded drastically in 3 months indoor under high humidity, but there is one in the office here that still looks good after 3 years.

i am now using pigment that was supposed to use in the first place: hidrogenium inks, made by signtrade, swiss, the one who delivers the printer. very strange, black has adhesion on semigloss paper, but CMY don't have any adhesion on semigloss paper. since the printer, originaly cames with K pigment ink, and CMY dye inks, i am wondering if there is a place where i can tell the printer it is using pigment for all colors. on mutoh site (europe) there are 2 rj900 pro printers: CAD (with K-pigment and CMY dye) and IMAGING (with all colors pigment) is there any difference among them?
