Weird problem with Mutoh 1624

My five year old Mutoh 1624 is slighly smearing/overspraying black and cyan inks, but only from left to right (as the print head moves from left to right). In the last six weeks I have replace the print head, the dampeners, the encoder strip, the encoder sensor, and the maintenance station.

I didnt replace the encoder wheel or sensor that is on the side of the machine because I assume that only controls the feed and not the side to side motion of the head.
When the machine is in the normal bi-directional mode, the smearing is on both sides, when I change it to print in uni-direction mode the smear is only on the left side.

You can see in the photo below that the black and blue are fuzzy but the magent

a is near perfect, even with 5 pt type.

Any suggestions on how to correct this or what is causing it?

DIY Printer Fixing Guide
I would check all head alignments as well. This is a weird one though because it looks like it's out of alignment but usually when it's out of alignment it affects all colors. The only way I can think of it only affecting certain colors is maybe someone was playing around with the unidirectional alignments? Those alignments should pretty much never need to be adjusted but it does allow for single colors to be adjusted which might be causing your problem if they got changed somehow. I would check the bidirectional alignments first and if that doesn't fix it, look at the unidirectional ones.

Make printhead alignment.
my machine is a 1624x, and doesnt have the same menu options as some of the other printers. I believe that I need to start it in "self diagnoses function mode", but I cant find any instructions to do that.

Is there a trick to this? Like holding down certain buttons while starting the machine?
