What the #×%+@ did they do to Sign Gold?

I just tried using the "new" sign gold now called "Quick Gold". Holly crap!! I had to bump the downforce up to 105gr. just to cut through it with a brand new blade!
( the old signgold I would run about 70gr ) This stuff is much thicker than it used to be.
And at 105 gr I STILL couldn't weed it easily! ( even though it almost cut through the liner in some spots) It was a pain in the @ss. Even the color has changed. If this stuff is going to be this hard to use I'll start doing traditional gold leaf again. ( even small jobs)

Anyone else having these problems with Quick Gold?

I use the "Real Gold" brand. The guy that started Sign Gold left and started this new company. Everything I have gotten from them has been top notch. They are constantly coming out with new patterns and materials which is nice too.

THANKS for telling me that. I didn't know that there was two different companies selling it. I will look into Real Gold. That is what I remember using and Fellers must have changed brands without telling their customers. I thought that the company had changed hands.

Be sure that you ordered & received the correct version of the product. We use a lot of Real Gold here, and occasionally they send us a "cut only" roll instead of the regular material. Those rolls are a LOT thicker.

Hmmm, Didn't know that either! The last roll I got of 15" had Scotchcal 220 carrier paper....is it a 3M product now?

Not sure, our 3M rep brought us a sample of "Real Gold" by a couple weeks ago and it DID have a 3M 220 paper carrier on the back of it.
However, we usually buy direct from SignGold and all of our rolls still have the nice plastic liner...
The mystery deepens?

That is odd... I buy a lot of Real Gold and it has always had a plastic liner. But then again I only buy the thermal printable version.

This is the firs time that I have seen a paper liner. I had my weight so heavy that it cut through the liner in some spots and it was a pain in the azz to weed!
This roll was a roll of 15". (With the paper liner) I normally get 24". The roll before this was 24" and was on the plastic but just as hard to weed.
But it seem to me that the 500 lb gorilla has his hand is this somehow.:omg:
