where do the graphics end?

I've seen a lot of boat wraps that have the graphics extending down the entire side of the boat untill it reaches the the point where it meets the bottom. Can the wrap extend below the static water line or should it stay above?

Never wrapped a boat before, but we have one to do in a couple of weeks, but everything I have read says stay ABOVE the water line. You can't see it anyway when it's in the water.
