where to order encoder strip from

I believe your two closest Roland distributors would be Midwest Sign Supply in Hayward and Denco Sales in Concord. I purchase my Roland printer parts from Midwest except for printhead which I used Solventinkjet.com (forum merchant menber). The parts drop ship directly from Roland (Irvine, CA) but you have to order them through a Roland dealer.

Midwest - http://www.midwestsign.com/

Denco - http://www.dencosales.com/

when sales people ask me to do their job for them.. I just hang up on them.. customer service people should be ashamed - glorified order takers who cant even take an order

Dont transfer me to your tech line so I can get the part number for you, ask me if I wouldnt mind holding so YOU can confirm the part number SMH

It has been my experience that when you select the part# you are assured of getting the right part, not so much when you allow the person answering the phone to select part#. With Midwest the tech department e-mailed me Roland lists of accessory parts, consumable parts, maintenance parts, etc. for my specific printer. I double checked part #'s with the Roland Service Manual for my printer. This assured me of getting the correct parts which did not happen when I relied on the person answering the phone.

encoders

We have a generic encoder on our site at www.solventinkjet.com. It is a long strip of encoder film that you need to trim to fit. On Rolands you will also need to put some holes in it to secure it in place. You take the old one out and lay it on top of the new one and make the marks for the cuts and holes. Saves at least $150.00. You will need to set the limits again, we can supply the tech manual if you like.

We used generic encoder strip on our 30" and it worked fine. Was sketched out a bit beforehand, but it operated perfectly.
