Why does Roland continue to release updates?

Does anyone know why so many updates come through from Roland. Seems like we've gotten three in the last week.

Are there that many new medias being introduced that they have to update color profiles so often?

Is it primarily for the Versaworks RIP?

Are these possibly "fixes" to the firmware?

About a week back they sent one that had three check boxes. One for color profile, one for a media profile or something or other and another one.

I at first tried to uncheck all three and hit okay, but it wouldn't allow that.
Can't remember what exactly I did, but ultimately got a workaround and back to work.

I don't think the VersaWorks updater actually checks firmware version, but OnSupport does. I usually just go here to check for firmware updates though because OnSupport seems to pull them from a different server that gets updated at a later date than that site. Not exactly sure what the firmware updates do, and after contacting Roland they said they don't give out release notes for them, so who knows what their purpose is. I like to keep everything as up to date as possible though so I just update and go on with my day.

The updates typically are new profiles for media, recently with the pantone color conversions and such. Make sure you only have your printer and inkset checked, so you are not wasting time downloading profiles you do not need. The firmware isn't updated through that, only versaworks. Typically firmware fixes bugs in the printer, sometimes it can improve print speeds and quality depending on the update. But for the most part, it fixes bugs.
