XC-540 Encoder Issues?

About a week or two ago now we began having issues with one of our XC-540's. It looks as though we were having encoder issues as the print alignment was pretty out of whack and prints tended to "drift" all over the media.

We replaced the encoder strip and that seemed to remedy the issue until today when it began happening again. I've tried doing manual cleanings as well as a thorough cleaning of the new encoder strip to no avail.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried cleaning the sensor that reads the encoder? We had a similar problem with our XC-540 very recently. After cleaning the encoder, it turned out that the actual sensor was grubby and was causing all our grief.

Do you also have issues with print/cut jobs drifting off? Even when our printer seemed to be working fine, we always had issues with cutting alignment. It always drifted off towards the other end of the printer and ended up having to do cut jobs in small sections to overcome the problem.

Good luck!

Long story short, and after much back and forth with a tech today, you were correct about the sensor. It seems to be on its way out and will be replaced anyways but cleaning it has at least got the machine up and running for now.

The print/cut alignment was off as well as the actual printing itself. Seemingly both were fixed by taking the machine apart, removing the sensor and giving it a good cleaning.

Thanks for the help!
