I kind of cheated on it - I left the backing paper square around the entire print and taped it down to the trailer, center hinged, peeled back the vinyl and cut the backing and laid the print back down on to it. Then just peeled away the backing as I went.
The big squeegee does interest me...
I wound up doing the entire thing dry. Really was not nearly as bad as I had feared. The 3651 is just thick enough to not be a total pain but also thin enough to lay down nice. I appreciate everyone's input. I gained a lot of confidence from the install and the customers were super happy with...
Thanks for the quick replies! What are your thoughts on a couple drops of dish soap in water for a solution to spray it with? Works really well for tinting windows - different adhesive, I know.
I don't have access to RapidTac and I'd like to knock this out this weekend while the weather will...
Hey all - I've got a 4'x6' diamond shaped graphic that's printed on Orajet 3651 w/ laminate and no masking.
The trailer it's going on has no rivets, just thin seams (thank God), and is glossy and smooth. Not to mention brand new - primo trailer for graphics.
Anyway - I've applied big graphics...
I finally got it done. I took a few days of hiatus from it and tackled the front; it went on like butter so I got my hopes up that the back would go smooth.
Not so much, but it's done now. That material was so crappy that when I peeled the mask off of it, it made HUGE wrinkles in one spot on...
Well that escalated quickly. Haha
I tried peeling the mask and backing off of the other side when I did the top & corners and I think it actually came out worse.
I must agree, while being a novice, that this stuff appears to be crap.
I'm not going to release the name of the company that did...
I just got off the phone with the guy that actually printed it. It's 3M IJ180C with a clear coat. He said they premask everything just because that's what most of their installers prefer.
Does this change anything? I'm thinking about laying down the main flat panel (where the swinging door is)...
Should I attempt to remove the premask before installing the rest of this? Tossing it in the garbage at this point isn't an option. I'm afraid that when I peel the premask it's going to destroy the material, but now looking back I think it would be much easier to install without that layer.
Just by looking at it, I don't think so, but is there a way to tell? I have zero information from the print company; the soda manufacturer designed the wrap and sent it to print and they mailed it directly to the guy I'm doing the wrap for. The packing slip held no information, either.
From what I can tell, it doesn't appear to. When I pull the mask off (assuming release paper is off too), that stuff is mega-thin. And stretches super easy, so I wouldn't think it's laminated unless they've sprayed it. I used some Oracal material that was printed before that clearly had a...
First off, I need to clarify a few things. I didn't design the wrap and this is my first time doing a wrap. I typically just do cut vinyl, but I'm applying this for a friend as a favor.
Please don't flame me, I'm a complete novice on wraps. I know you guys know your stuff, that's why I'm here...
That's probably what I'll do... the customer is of course tight-pocketed, but I'll give them the price figure of both methods and explain the difference and see what the outcome is.
Was just curious if anyone here had done anything like this.
Hey guys, quick question. I'm putting a stripe along the bottom of some gas station windows, and it needs to have text on it. I could of course do all cut-vinyl, and apply it in three layers (white stripe, red lettering with blue stroke) or have it printed completely by a wholesaler. I'm...
