Letting the material acclimate to environment.

I'm currently having problems printing on Korographics, when in the past I have not had head strike issues.
This may be a stupid question, but do I need to let a new roll of material acclimate to the conditions in my print shop for a day or so, before printing?
I'm just banging my head wondering what the problem is all of a sudden. This past roll has head strikes all over it. I basically received the roll from ups, and immediately started printing.
Is this a no no? Thanks for any help everyone!

If the weather is still temperate, it shouldn't be a huge issue. I have a few materials that can be difficult, especially if they are between thin and thick, but not thick enough to justify raising the head. Have you tried that at all with any success?
