Print media for blockout

Have a customer with an older jet boat that had some decals on it previously. when they were removed they left a good amount of ghosting or adhesive residue that is cooked into the gel coat. They want to make some new decals to cover the old ones, essentially a white oval with the boat name printed on it. we did a run with some arlon 4500 glx material but they said they could see the old design through the new decals. Looking for suggestions on materials that might cover better, these are going on the top side of the boat so not near the water line.

They can see the actual image or just the outline of the image where the residue is left? Most grey backed vinyls will blockout any image. If they see visible outlines you can't hide those without refinishing the surface before applying.
