  1. How To Cut Aluminum Composite Material

About the edges...I used sand paper for years (80 grit, 120 grit....I tried them all). After the first few swipes the sandpaper is already dead. Recently started using a file and it has been a game changer---much faster and the file doesn't wear out. On the side that will receive the print, I'll...
  2. Lifting Oracal Reflective Vinyl

Happened to me using 3M-680...only thing I could come up with was that the car paint (new car) was still out-gassing. Customer took the vehicle, but I'd check on it from time to time. On a warm day...bubbles---following that on a cool rainy day...no bubbles; and eventually the bubbles did...
  3. UV or Latex---which last longer?

Thanks for sharing. In google searching I was unable to find the answers to the questions, which is why I posted here. About the IJ-40C---not sure why, maybe it's the matte lam?, but the prints are holding up incredibly well...have some out there that I feel are 7+ years---no fading and no...
  4. UV or Latex---which last longer?

Happy Thursday sign ninjas! I have a job coming up that will be a lot of pieces. We usually do HP latex prints on IJ-40C w/ matte lam., and then apply the prints to ACM. Because of the volume of pieces in the upcoming project, I was wondering if having the signs printed on a flatbed printer may...
  5. Harbor Sales Day

It's 4 hours+ one way for us too, but we're going to make the pilgrimage.
  6. Need Help Painting HDU foam...

I haven't used it on acrylic, just dimensional urethane. I would think it would hold well to acrylic if you go over it with a scotch pad or use very fine sand paper to put a tooth on it.
  7. Possible Material Failure

In my experience?....sure, you can apply small areas of print material onto existing printed panels, but every time I've installed a printed panel onto a printed panel, both prints lift off...different thermal expansion coefficients. I've learned my lesson... the existing print needs to be...
  8. what's wrong with this install

    And straighten the big "S"...please.
  9. Is it just me?

We have the same situation with a client and their vista frames. We just print them on paper from a desk top ink jet printer...;).
  10. Frosted/Etched Film + Application Tape Combo

Avery Etchmark and 4075RLA tape---always dry...no matter what size. I know the 3M product is great, but had bought a roll of the Avery Etchmark to save a little money years ago. The first time I used it, I found it to be the most easy (relatively) to apply with successful results. It's been the...
  11. Matte or Gloss overlaminate for longevity

Matte lam for me all day long---it's a richer look IMO.
  12. Blade depth changing during cutting.

Goatshaver---I have the exact issue with my blade holder for my ioline plotter. I'm figuring it's a worn blade holder that needs replacing, but I eliminated the issue by simply wrapping a piece of scotch tape around the blade holder to serve as a clamp (in a way that allowed it to still fit...
  13. Any Hope of Saving This Graphic?

+1 for the spray adhesive idea. Instead of trying to mask it, spray the adhesive into a cup (enough to form a liquid pool) and paint it on the back of the graphic with a small craft brush. When the glue starts to set, push the graphic down into place.
  14. Looking for an entry level 24-32" Cutter?

You don't hear about Ioline at all, but I must say this is among the best of plotters I've ever used...and I've used a few. My Ioline is probably 20 years old, and I paid about $1K for it back in the day---the only thing I've had to do to it is load the vinyl in...it's a beast...
