Yea it's just taped to the wedge. You have to push the wedge in (sometimes takes some taps with a screwdriver and hammer) and then it'll let you slide it out the end.
It does normally, we put a wood base on our grommet machines, just needs to be long enough to account for the handle. Aluminum square tubing skis would work if weight is a concern
Colour the crop mark in with sharpie or micron pen and then use whiteout around it (just get as close to the mark edge as possible on all 4 sides), quicker than trying to line up vinyl. It's mainly looking for the edge, you might not even need to colour it in.

Could just be the paper. You could try scoring it perpendicular to what you are now and see if its an issue with the grain. Also check to see if it cracks when you fold it the other way, scores typically want to be folded in one direction. Pics might help.
Our Grimco tech called HP to see what he needed for a service call, they told him to check if the ink expires 2025/01, both did. They're sending us replacements.
Swapped to a different cartridge and ran ink through and we're back in business
