  1. Best material for cinder block wall

I have a customer that wants to put a wall covering on a cinder block wall in his garage. I've heard that PhotoTex EXS (extra strength) will work but I'm curious to see if anyone has any better suggestions for this type of application. Please let me know if you do have another suggestion or...
  2. No idea what I am doing....

I'm somewhat of a newbie as well. My best advice is to learn Adobe Illustrator asap. I followed a great tutorial on Youtube that gives great basics of Illustrator that you can build upon. Link below. Step 2 is to learn your printer!
  3. Thought you had no money?

In my full-time job I am a Contracting Officer for the DoD. I write contracts to procure services/supplies for my agency and have been doing it for 10 years this month. I spend lots of your taxpayer funding and have seen some shit that would make your head spin. I hate it for a number of...
  4. Rant Roland VG 540

I have a VG 540 and absolutely love it. I too had a few little hiccups with incorrect/incomplete cut lines but I figured out that it was the cutline in Illustrator itself that I screwed up. In Illustrator, under Stroke (Window>Stroke), make sure the Cap, Corner, and Align Stroke are all checked...
  5. Are TrueVIS Rolands really THAT bad?

I'm brand new to the game and purchased a VG-540 last May. I love it and it was easy to learn on. The print/cut feature is great. I've only had one real hiccup which was of my own doing - was trying to print a very large JPEG that was 300ppi and Versaworks can only handle JPEGs at 150ppi. The...
  6. Roland VG540 "streaking" large raster

Sorry I'm seeing this. I am hardwired to the printer as well. I usually rip then print but since I started having this issue I switched to rip while printing but it made no difference. The ONE thing that did seem to work was reducing the JPEG that I was printing from 300 pixels per inch down to...
  7. Roland VG540 "streaking" large raster

Yep! 6.2.2. I should also mention that the JPEGs are huge gigapixel images and was being printed 14'x9' at 300 pixels per inch. When loading into the queue it would hang around 10% and then crash as soon as it jumped to 30% loaded. Bumping the image down from 300ppi to 150ppi lets it load with...
  8. Roland VG540 "streaking" large raster

I saw that feature! Definitely bumped that up but unfortunately I can't even load the 300ppi file into VW6 without it crashing. The same file bumped down to 150ppi works fine though. Didn't think having a 300ppi file would be such a big issue.
  9. Roland VG540 "streaking" large raster

Appears to have been a software/RIP issue. Dropped the jpeg from 300ppi to 150ppi and that did the trick. I even tried it at 225ppi and it still messed up the print.
  10. Roland VG540 "streaking" large raster

Sorry I'm just getting back to you, Gino. Yes, I was allowing slack on the media roll. I think I found the culprit. The JPEG file was saved at 300ppi and at 14'x9' it was just too much for the software and/or my computer to handle. Not exactly sure if it was a memory issue or the rip from...
  11. Roland VG540 "streaking" large raster

Yes, direct ethernet cable from printer to laptop. Just checked the cable and it wasn't pinched or damaged at all.
  12. Roland VG540 "streaking" large raster

It's not exactly in the same spot, but very close. I've thought it may be an issue with the file itself but have re-processed it several times and have had no issues other than printing it. The preview in Versaworks looks great and it rips in about 10 minutes or so which is normal for a file...
  13. Roland VG540 "streaking" large raster

Have had my Roland VG540 for just under a year and this is the first problem that I've encountered. It's been a great machine until this point but I'm truly at a loss with what to do. I print large gigapixel panoramas on PhotoTex for wallpaper. The files are huge and normally Versaworks works...
  14. Printing "Wallpaper" with Roland 540V

PhotoTex is great for wall paper too. I'm in the process of buying a Roland VG 540 and am primarily going to use PhotoTex. It's incredibly easy to put up and is forgiving if the adhesive touches itself. It also doesn't wrinkle or crease which is another added bonus.
  15. Vg 540 truevis question

Mainframe, I'm new here and am on the verge of pulling the trigger on a VG 540 until I started reading all of these threads about the problems they've been having! Now that you've had it for a few months, have you had any issues with it??? I'd love to read your review of the machine to see if...
