    There are 3 locations for “temp” files c:\temp c:\windows\temp and the one you need help finding c:\users in users click on the name that is your login (windows pro normally has several choices) on the address bar add a \appdata at the end of the name (now you are in the hidden appdata folder)...

    It wouldn’t hurt to look in event viewer and see what logs show look for flexi or SAI. if nothing watch the clock, start the program or open your file right at 9pm for instance. then go back and look for 9pm log entries also, wouldn’t hurt to restart pc & open the program with a right click>run...

    it used to make sense to say, find a tv or stereo repair shop & ask them to do some testing , of the board, looking for an open or a short on the board (we used to do lots of that type of testing for people, YEARS AGO.) but these days it's like asking if there is a blacksmith's shop in your town.

    the reason i asked, (having done a lot of this, over the years) is that getting a bad used part is not that unusual getting a used part with the same type of defect (or yielding the same result) is more unusual you could be plugging a good power supply into a bad system board IN A VERY QUIET...

    the "faint zapping noise" you describe is probably the 12v or 5v supply trying to start, loaded down by a short. when you power on, the main board is not generating a "power good signal
