  1. So.....................................

Nearly all of yesterday I couldn't connect to the site at all via Google Chrome. When trying to use Firefox the browser put up a warning notice. I tried checking back late last night and the site loaded normally.
  2. Font ID Request - Thick Serif Face

Didn't have any luck trying to ID the typeface in the attached image using MyFonts' What the Font tool. I'm guessing it could be a free typeface, but didn't find a match scrolling thru a bunch of pages at DaFont. Thanks in advance for any help!
  3. Corel Font issues

I don't think OpenType Variable and OpenType SVG fonts will work at all under Windows 7. That's another problem in addition to Adobe Fonts/Creative Cloud compatibility issues.
  4. Question Importing PDF with text as curves has slice in characters

I use a lot of those shortcuts in CorelDRAW, as well as the R, L, T, B, C and E keys for alignment. I can run into some aggravation when jumping over to Adobe Illustrator. The keyboard shortcuts are very different in that environment. Hitting Corel-style shortcut keys in Illustrator can do some...
  5. Serif Extends 40% Off Sale for Affinity V2 Applications to January

Anyone who uses Affinity Designer might have received the email notice yesterday. The second versions of Affinity Designer, Publisher and Photo were released in November. The initial 40% off sale was about to end, but Serif has extended the V2 launch sale until January 25. I'll have that much...
  6. Corel Font issues

CorelDRAW has a bunch of persistent bugs with its font handling. Some of the fonts bugs have been there for several years. Yet they keep inching up their subscription price. They want $269 per year for DRAW and PhotoPaint, even though neither have been seeing much in the way of performance...
  7. Question Importing PDF with text as curves has slice in characters

I'll have to experiment with some shortcut assignments. As often as I'm using Variable Fonts these days it's about time I had some kind of keyboard combo for welding those overlaps on text strings converted to curves.
  8. Question Importing PDF with text as curves has slice in characters

The weld buttons on the tool bar in CorelDRAW are hit-and-miss when it comes to removing overlaps in paths. The Shaping>Weld command in the Object tool bar is more reliable at removing overlaps in lettering from Variable Fonts. One "gotcha" is the command needs to be applied when the text object...
  9. Font ID Request - "easy" letters not so easy to ID

Apple Chancery is closer than Lucida Calligraphy, but still doesn't quite match. The descender on the "y" has a thicker stroke. Overall, the letters have a more rounded appearance too. I swear I've seen this lettering somewhere before, but just can't place it.
  10. Font Help is Appreciated Again Today

Looks like Aurora Bold Condensed to me. It's commonly bundled in with copies of CorelDRAW.
  11. Font ID Request - "easy" letters not so easy to ID

At first glance I thought the letters in the attached image were Lucida Calligraphy or maybe Monotype Corsiva. Neither match the sample image. Thanks in advance for any help.
  12. Question Importing PDF with text as curves has slice in characters

Overlapping paths is a very common trait with OpenType Variable fonts. The variable version of Montserrat definitely has overlapping paths, as do nearly all the other OTF VAR fonts at the Google Fonts web site. The standard, static versions of Montserrat don't have overlapping parts. I rarely...
  13. Question Importing PDF with text as curves has slice in characters

PDFs with embedded fonts can be placed in Illustrator and then the embedded fonts can be converted to outlines using the Flatten Transparency dialog box. When placing the PDF make sure to check the "link" option, otherwise the font substitution menu will pop up. Once the PDF is placed into...
  14. Font ID Request - Condensed Inline Typeface

Thanks. It turns out the commercial version from The Fontry (12 font files) is currently 60% off at MyFonts. Normal price is $25. Sale price is only $10.
  15. Font ID Request - Condensed Inline Typeface

I'm stumped trying to figure out the condensed "constructivist" typeface used in the attached photo. Industria and Industria Inline are similar, but have obvious differences. Raleigh Gothic is also similar yet not a match either; and it does not have an inline style. This typeface is something...
  16. Font Help, Please

Crillee Extra Bold is definitely the source. The lettering was artificially stretched like hell. And it sort of looks like the lettering had gone through a bad stage of auto-tracing.
  17. Anyone recognize this font?

Barlow Bold Condensed or Semi-Bold Condensed looks very close. https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Barlow+Condensed
  18. City zoning code experiences for business location

Various cities, towns and suburbs usually only allow commercial signs to be installed in areas zoned for commercial or industrial use. There can be exceptions in residential areas, such as temporary signs like real estate yard signs, political signs. Off-premise signage is a tricky area. Most...
  19. Design: How to?

Yeah, the rat and bugs in the wrap design are specific images, not pieces of vector clip art. Obviously it would be a serious challenge to track down the exact same images used in the existing wrap designs. There are different methods how to convert color images to look black and white while...
  20. Change file from cmyk to rgb

Many of the colors in the RGB color space fall outside the gamut limits of CMYK. Even if a large format printer has extra ink cartridges, such as light cyan and light magenta, it will not hit every RGB color. When I design graphics in RGB I usually try to keep them within CMYK gamut limits...
