If you're using vinyl for a boy scout trailer I would buy some Avery Chrome wrap vinyl by the yard and just plotter cut that. It seems to hold up well outside.

I'd use a 2080 white. Be careful stripping/installing these though as they hold airplane fuel, so torches are a no-go. Every time we've done these type of trucks they have to be done outdoors on-site, so you might want to figure that added hassle into the equation.

Does your media clamp have ink buildup on it? It sounds like the head may be hitting on it when it goes over it.

You will need the service program to do the repairs. The repair isn't that hard in itself, but it is impossible without the software. IIRC - You have to have the software to de-pressurize the head, then to configure the head, then re-pressurize it after install.

I believe the process is called flush & fill, through the menu on the printer. That will purge the head/lines and refill. Also, check to be sure your caps are seated correctly and the ring has no damage.
