  1. Logo Design

That's as ghastly as previous efforts. Three objects floating around, each with no relationship to the other two. Moreover, the 'K' looks awful terminating the arched text. Not a good typeface for arching. Then there's that round thing in the center. It makes the entire effort appear that it's...
  2. Screenshot: What software is this?

I have no idea as to what software this might be but the layout is via an amateur^2 having an exceptionally bad day. On this image there's 5, or perhaps 6, individual objects just floating around. Each one having no relationship with any other. Whomever is responsible for this probably shouldn't...
  3. Excerpts of an image didn't print the same as the main image

When an image is run through an RIP every pixel can have some effect on any other pixel or merely the presence or absence of a pixel. These pixel to pixel effects are minuscule but the are cumulative. You're sending different images, don't be surprised if they come out differently.
  4. Getting the same output from two different RIP's? Same ICC profile, same printer...

Identical output from two different printers? Doubtful that will ever happen seeing as it can be seemingly impossible to get identical output from the same printer. There's lots of parameters not considered by a profile, any profile. Like temperature, humidity, general state of the printer, etc...
  5. What name should we use?

Go ahead and use some childish attempt to be clever. Then, should you ever make the Big Time you'll be stuck with it. Like 'Google' and 'Yahoo'. First off, lose the 'stickers'. Stickers are made and used by mouth breathing semi-literates. Gentle-beings make and use 'decals'. If you want a...
  6. Need Help with Printing High-Quality Button Designs

Garbage in, garbage out. If whatever it is you're using for input is functionally low resolution, so will be your output. Jacking up the print resolution on a crappy bitmap will do little to nothing to fix the problem. Likewise, increasing the resolution of a bitmap of dubious quality is equally...
  7. What the $%^& Colour Is That?

Is this image a bitmap? What flavor of image are you sending? CMYK or RGB? What are your Rendering Intents? The closest you can come to What You See Is What You Get without undue effort and avoiding having to deal with a coven of coloristas, usually can be achieved with the following...
  8. Vinyl side protection

Coat it with a liquid laminate such as 'Clear Shield Classic or Original Formula' or something similar . The acrylic coating of a liquid laminate typically has far more UV protection than vinyl laminates. And yes, you can roll it back up.
  9. Need Help Mutoh XPJ-1641SR Washed out colors

What flavor of files are you sending, CMYK or RGB? To what are your Rendering Intents set? I printed for twenty some years using exactly one, as in one, profile. An Oracal 3651G profile, 8 pass if memory serves, from Oracal for virtually all media, with one notable exception. I modified the...
  10. Frosted vinyl install help

Why do you want to anger the various gods that deal with these sorts of things? Mask each panel completely and apply it. Wet if you're not sure of what you're doing, dry if you are. Wet is a pain in the butt all by itself. With wet, after you put the vinyl down you have to wait seemingly...
  11. Best Printer for MX Graphics

$50-100K? Really? I started a vinyl business as something to do after retirement with an initial $12-13K which got me a cutter, printer, and all manner of small tools & equipment around 2003. I was doing a land office business, turning down as many jobs as I took on until I retired from this...
  12. Need a transfer tape on a liner that can be contour cut before applying to vinyl

If 50,000,000 people do a stupid thing, it's still a stupid thing. I'm not talking about trimming the mask and backing into a trapezoid or something to better line up with the geometry of the substrate. I'm talking about contour cutting an image of a multi-armed monkey god or any other...
  13. Need a transfer tape on a liner that can be contour cut before applying to vinyl

This would seem to be both pretentious and needless. Print the vinyl, cut it. Weed it. Slap on a piece of transfer tape. Trim the thing to the rectangle that contains the image plus an 1/8 or so. Trim it square to the image so its simple to apply the image squarely. Not only is this simpler, it...
  14. Need Help Scaling a Proof to the actual size to be printed

Here's how it's done for, say, the layout for a real estate sign. Select all of the sign elements, group them, make the group the actual size you want, ungroup them.
  15. rolling edges on composite material?

It's not so much removing the necessary back aluminum and core. Simply done on a router or table saw, even a, gag, radial arm saw or panel saw could serve. The difficulty is in the bending of the front aluminum. Without a brake capable of making these tiny bends, you'll have to do it by hand...
  16. Not sure if I'm using the correct terminology................................................................................

Good idea, here's a couple to start on... Retromingent and Horotater. If those prove too easy, try Catafalque.
  17. Not sure if I'm using the correct terminology................................................................................

"...purposefully misleading..." This is your term that you inserted for whatever reason, not mine. I only said 'fallacious', nothing more and that's all I meant. Your referring to liquid laminate products as 'varnish' is misleading. Moreover, your assertions that a vinyl laminate is...
  18. Not sure if I'm using the correct terminology................................................................................

Dictionary: noun A collection of descriptions word usage, spelling, and pronunciation that was in vogue when the collection as published. There are no definitions in a dictionary, only descriptions. Using a dictionary entry as if it were a definition if fallacious.
  19. Painted lettering

If you do this using a stencil, no matter how careful and clever you are, it will look just like it was done with a stencil. As in amateur night. Hand lettered signs, done by someone who knows what they're doing, have a definite recognizable look. Corner treatment, straight edge concavity, that...
  20. Rate my very first sign

This is a sure fire winner in the upcoming Bad Advice competitions, free style division. Far better simply to learn how to squeegee properly. Do this and there won't be any air bubbles. Even if there are, just let it sit for a few days, in the sun if you can. Since vinyl is gas permeable, any...
