My printer is 8 years old and I was considering updating to a newer Mimaki. I print from Flexi, but hear that Mimakis run their own rip now. How does one convert the files and colour info across to the new platform? Can it be done or do you basically re work all the files?

What brand of foil? I notice that when I use certain Duracoat foils I can hear a sticking sound, but it never actually sticks to the head, although sometimes when opening the lid after a run the foil seems to rip a bit. Maybe the heat is too high on certain foils?

I still don't understand how you can transfer from paper to clear plastic? I mean how do you remove the premask after transfering?

I think the word die cut would be used more often to describe the procedure to someone not in the business. Computer cut or vinyl cut lettering probably means squat to most end users.

I have been told Expo markers are the worse to use. Staedtler or Quatro work best...

Thank you for the responses..... I don't need help with the file, I know that Flexi does not seem to have a problem with it, so I open it there, dump the bitmap and export out as an eps file. I just find it odd that Flexi has no problem with the file and can even break the masks, yet Signlab8...

yes, they included a photo, but the rest of the file is all vectored lettering...so Signlab just treats the entire file like it is a bitmap and when the box opens asking for dpi settings to import the file, I guess it just turns the entire file into a bitmap....not good
