  1. Rant Help Make Our Lives Better: Reform Illustrator's Canvas Size Limit

I want to thank Bobby H for his sensible answers regarding use of Corel Draw, it also helps knowing you are a good designer and have full command of the design process. Most Corel clowns who only go as far as saying Corel is best with no information to back it up... and they design like a$$...
  2. reflective apartment door lettering

Makes sense... you don't have this as an option but I would use painted aluminum panel, reverse-cut the numbers out...
  3. reflective apartment door lettering

Odd, I always thought NJ required only fire related rooms to have the reflective signs so they can locate them fast... When I have done them, there were not that many, I always designed them with undersized backers so sloppy maintenance can paint around them without sloshing paint all over them....
  4. Rant Help Make Our Lives Better: Reform Illustrator's Canvas Size Limit

I agree, when I used Auto-Cad, we were required to have all drawing in Auto-Cad format in a specific format and style, I designed the project in Illustrator to the sheet size we were using in Auto-Cad and imported them in, making sure we kept the segments together in case a sign shop used those...
  5. Need Help Drawing for dimensional letters?

I see a few things I would be concern with besides what is already stated... Is the Brushed Aluminum Laminate outdoor durable? Most are not, if it's Chem-metal, for sure it is not... If you are going to stud mount them, make sure repeated letters are studded the same way, far too many times I...
  6. Rant Help Make Our Lives Better: Reform Illustrator's Canvas Size Limit

I use key commands (stock/ custom/actions) with no problem - never had accuracy issues with Illustrator with CADTools and I can design in multiple scales on a single artboard, for CAD I did use Auto-Cad, have tried Rhino... but are clunky for graphic work.
  7. employee stealing

I would check your states law.... If he was an employee, even "IF" he did steal, you still may not be able to call him out on a public forum... as an employer, you can only do or say so much about an employee unless that employee allows you - as a reference. We have pretty strict laws here in...
  8. employee stealing

You might want to ask a lawyer if this is an appropriate post, I'm thinking your efforts are better served taking this clown to court than exposing yourself to a lawsuit...
  9. Rant Help Make Our Lives Better: Reform Illustrator's Canvas Size Limit

I think you make good points... I should have added, the EGD process is that production files are generated by sign shops so they understand the size and scale of the projects, they also supply colors for review, we also review patterns so that we know exactly whats going up. I have had the...
  10. Rant Help Make Our Lives Better: Reform Illustrator's Canvas Size Limit

Before Cad-Tools I had this conversion information taped to the bottom of my monitor... Another thing, How many who do not use scale are only making promotional graphics? How many are self taught? How long has everyone been doing this? Before computers, we drew this all out, and yeah, you bet...
  11. Rant Help Make Our Lives Better: Reform Illustrator's Canvas Size Limit

I would prefer the option of limitless canvas size so I can send files to production, but all the signs I design must be designed to architectural and/or engineers scale because the signs need to be processed by a municipality for permitting, architects (who happen to also design in scale)...

  13. Stencil on painted concrete

I agree, this is how I would do it, I think Wayne is equipped to do this...
  14. Need Help INVOICES and the State of CA.

Exactly... What's at stake in this situation is that Signspe can at minimum lose his license, no unlicensed "Contractor" is worth that...

  16. Need Help INVOICES and the State of CA.

You are correct... I am also assuming that the designer thinks they can broker the sign like we do with printing. Brokering any work in California requiring a contractors license is a no-no. I'm a sign designer only - I do not up-charge the client on any work done by a licensed contractor, I...
  17. Need Help INVOICES and the State of CA.

You are correct, she can not contract the job... only the holder of the license can. I'm thinking she wants to up-charge your work. Did you have the actual client sign your contract or did the designer?

  19. Low quality sign shops here in maine

It's everywhere... this is a newly built apartment building in Los Angeles, they tried to "hipster" it up... not only that, but all the interior signs were installed where you can see the tape/glue through the face. Instead of polishing the edges as called out, they kept the saw cuts, multiple...
  20. Aluminum Jewelite Alternative?

There are a few ways to do capless/trimless letters. I don't see why it has to be some light sensitive shrinking metal.
