Hey JohnB
I understand that you are looking at or have purchased a HP315. However after reading and re-reading your post I'm a little unclear of your overall question.
You are looking for advise on what type of vinyl to use but for what use?
Different uses require different vinyls. What...
All great points here.
In my opinion, for you it might be best to print off a Pantone chart, find the color that best fits and either use that or tweek the color from there. I would do this for all medias and modes that you print with.
Best solution, get a RIP software with more...

SoftwareEstiMate vs Cyrious vs Other
So what do you think of these programs IF you've used both?
We currently use EstiMate and have only briefly looked at the Cyrious product.
We've been using the Triagle Bulk Ink System since the day we plugged our Mimaki into the wall 4 years ago.
No problems.
One thing to keep in mind........................COLOR MANGEMENT!
You might have to create profiles for this ink set and the various medias that you use...
Is the PDF file vector or raster?
If vector, open the file in ONYX > PREFLIGHT > PRINTER AND MEDIA tab > COLOR MANAGEMENT pulldown arrow > ALL ICC PROFILES OFF.
Run a sample and see what this does for you.
and/or
try a different profile.
